EdTech & LMS development

EdTech and LMS development for universities, schools and course platforms.

We build university websites, student portals, tutoring platforms and AI learning tools. They connect to the LMS and student systems you already run, and they keep teachers in control of what AI shows to learners.

Where education platforms struggle

Three problems schools and universities bring to us.

They come from the same place: many users with different roles, data spread over many systems, and new AI tools that need rules.

Students

Ten systems to check one week

Sounds familiar if: Students open one site for the timetable, another for grades, a third for payments and then log in again to the LMS.

One portal behind one login that shows each person their own schedule, grades, payments and news, with the LMS a click away.

Editors

Hundreds of editors, one website

Sounds familiar if: Every faculty, unit and office edits its own pages, and one wrong click can change a page that belongs to someone else.

Access limited to each editor’s own sections, reusable components and search that stays fast as the page count grows.

~1,000 editors
AI

AI that hands out the answer

Sounds familiar if: You want AI in the course, but a model that solves the exercise for the student defeats the point of the exercise.

AI hints that guide without giving the answer away, and that teachers approve before any student sees them.

What we build

Software for learners, teachers and the people who run the content.

Each item links to the education project where we built it.

University websites at scale

Public sites for applicants, students and staff with search people can use, staff profiles fed from university systems and safe editing for large teams.

  • Lucene search with filters per content type
  • Daily staff imports and research data imports
  • Per-section editor permissions
See it in Ben-Gurion University · ~80,000 pages

Student and staff portals

Login-only portals that pull schedules, grades, payments and assignments from separate systems into one screen, targeted to each user.

  • Content targeted by 8 criteria
  • Single sign-on into Moodle
  • Preview a page as a specific user
See it in BGU portal · students and staff

Tutoring and course platforms

Multi-tenant platforms for language schools, tutors and solo learners, with courses, lessons, homework and dashboards that make sense to each role.

  • Course lists across tenant databases
  • Lesson changes with a reason and email
  • Homework table with deadline and status
See it in TutorPro · schools, tutors, students

AI for course authors

Text and image generation inside the editor where course content is written, so authors do not copy prompts and files between tools.

  • AI text in string, textarea and rich text fields
  • Generated images placed into content
  • Works on Umbraco Cloud
See it in EducatedOn · OpenAI and Stability

Language learning content

Back-office tools for multilingual teaching material: word meanings and translations inside the text, moderated discussion and activity reports.

  • Translation-aware rich text editor
  • Comments with a moderator dashboard
  • Reports exported to Excel
See it in Nordic language platform · Danish, Norwegian, Swedish

Lecture archives and transcripts

Recorded lectures turned into timed transcripts, subtitles, summaries and streamable video, even when speakers switch languages mid-sentence.

  • Long recordings split at pauses
  • Subtitles that stay in sync
  • HLS video, thumbnails and previews

Student portal home with monthly calendar, messages, assignments, grades and account status
University story

Ben-Gurion University: one public site, one personal portal.

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev runs its public website on Umbraco. It holds about 80,000 pages, around 1,000 people edit it, and traffic spikes reach about 300 requests per second.

We keep search fast with Lucene and a page cache that knows which pages depend on which content. A daily import updates 15,000+ staff profiles. Then we built a login-only portal on the same backend and AWS setup, where students and staff see their own schedule, grades, payments and news, and open Moodle through single sign-on.

TutorPro: AI help for students, with teachers in charge.

TutorPro is a multi-tenant platform for language schools, tutors and independent students. For KursyPOL, a Warsaw language school, a team of two to five OSKI engineers built the TutorPRO lesson MVP between January 2023 and January 2024: an AI and OCR tool that helps teachers create interactive exercises, and real-time lessons that use them.

  • The MVP was delivered within the planned timeline and budget, according to the founder’s Clutch review.
  • Later work added AI hints that teachers approve before any student sees them.
  • Courses from the main and tenant databases now appear in one list that sorts and filters properly.
  • Independent students sign up in the main database instead of a school’s tenant.

AI in learning

Rules from our AI work in education.

AI should save teachers time and help stuck students. It should not replace the teacher’s judgment. These rules come from the projects on this page. See also our AI development service and how we put AI content generation inside Umbraco.

The teacher approves first

Teachers can edit, regenerate, delete or approve each AI hint. Students see a hint only after approval.

ExampleTutorPro
Azure OpenAI

Hints, not answers

The prompt uses the exercise type, the task and the correct answers, and keeps the answer out of the hint. The student’s own answers decide when a hint is needed.

LMS and system integrations

Connected to the systems your school already runs.

An education platform is only as useful as the data it can reach. We connect portals and course platforms to the LMS, student records, payments and identity, and we report learning results back where they belong.

How an education project runs

Start with the people, then the systems.

Education software has many audiences. We design for each role, check every system it must talk to, and agree the rules for content and AI before writing code.

C# / .NETUmbraco CMSNode.jsVue.jsAngularReactPostgreSQLSQL ServerPythonAWSKubernetes
  1. Map the users

Applicants, students, teachers, editors and admins each need something different. We list who does what and which system holds their data today.

  2. Check the systems

LMS, student records, payments and identity: which APIs exist, what they return and how sign-in works. This decides what the portal or platform can show.

  3. Agree the rules

Who sees which content, who may edit which section and where AI is allowed. Teachers and editors sign off before the build starts.

  4. Build in phases

Two-week sprints with demos to the people who will use the system. The flow that saves the most clicks ships first.

  5. Run and extend

Support in production, data imports that run every day and new modules as the academic year brings new needs.

EdTech FAQ

EdTech questions we hear most.

Anything missing? Send us your question and an engineer will answer, usually within one business day.

Contact us
Can you connect our portal or website to Moodle?+

Yes. For Ben-Gurion University we built a student and staff portal where Moodle opens through single sign-on, next to schedules, grades, payments and assignments from more than ten university system APIs. For other LMS platforms we start by reviewing their API and sign-in options.

Do you work with SCORM courses?+

Yes. For EducatedOn, an e-learning platform on Umbraco Cloud, we rebuilt SCORM result tracking and storage, so courses running in SCORM environments report learner results the platform can rely on.

How do you keep AI from doing the student’s work?+

On TutorPro, AI writes hints from the exercise and its correct answers, and the prompt keeps the answer out of the hint. Teachers can edit, regenerate, delete or approve each hint, and students see only approved hints.

Will the site cope with traffic peaks and many editors?+

Ben-Gurion University’s site holds about 80,000 pages, is edited by around 1,000 people and sees traffic spikes of about 300 requests per second. We handle that with dependency-aware page caching, Lucene search and per-section editor permissions. We also moved the live site from Azure to AWS with no interruption.

Do you build accessible education websites?+

Accessibility belongs in the brief for any public education site. Our documented WCAG work is on Auto.co.il, a large car site, where we shipped keyboard navigation, ARIA and screen reader support. We apply the same practices to education projects and agree the target criteria with you up front.

Can you transcribe recorded lectures?+

Yes. We built a pipeline for an educational lecture archive that reached 99% transcription precision on Hebrew and Aramaic, with English mixed in. It also produces subtitles, summaries and HLS video, and runs more than 300 jobs at the same time.

Who owns the code and the data?+

You do. The source code, databases and infrastructure live in your accounts, with full IP assignment in the contract.
