About Alliant

Large US insurance brokerage working in property insurance, reinsurance, employee benefits and other areas of risk management.

Alliant is a large US insurance brokerage. Its business spans property insurance, reinsurance, employee benefits and other areas of risk management, and its web presence had grown into several related sites.

Those sites ran on an outdated stack. Editors needed developers for routine content changes, and each site was handled on its own. Alliant asked OSKI for a proper rebuild rather than a new coat of paint.

The challenge

What had to be solved

The problem was structural, so a redesign alone would not have fixed it.

  • Content changes were complicated, and editors relied on developers to publish them.
  • Related sites had no shared multi-site foundation, so managing them was fragmented and slow.
  • Every marketing campaign needed extra form configuration.
  • Okta SSO and Eloqua marketing automation had to be part of the platform.
  • The hosting setup was not designed to scale over the long term.
The approach

How the team built it

Current Umbraco, built in modules

OSKI moved every site onto the newest Umbraco release and broke the codebase into modules. Custom Umbraco packages and shared components hold the logic every site needs.

A multi-site model instead of copies

New sites plug into the same structure and reuse its components. Alliant can add a site without duplicating any logic.

Forms that feed Eloqua

Custom Umbraco Forms workflows send submissions straight to Eloqua, so campaign forms no longer need extra setup each time.

Okta at the CMS door

Editors sign in to the Umbraco back office through Okta SSO, in line with Alliant's identity setup.

Azure hosting with monitoring

Traffic runs through Azure Load Balancer, media lives in Azure Blob Storage and releases go out through CI/CD pipelines in Azure. Datadog watches the platform in production.

The outcome

What changed

Alliant now runs its sites from one system that editors can manage themselves.

  • Editors update content without waiting for a developer.
  • Multiple websites are managed in one system.
  • Deployments are automated and predictable, and the infrastructure is more stable and ready to scale.
  • New projects launch on the existing architecture without major rework.
