Why it exists

The problem it solves

Sites with many similar pages, such as service or technology pages, need each one written from scratch even though the layout repeats. Copying a page keeps the structure but leaves every block to rewrite, and images still have to be found and uploaded. umContentGenerator reuses an existing page as the blueprint and fills it with new content in one run.

Typical uses

  • Creating a set of technology or service pages that share one layout
  • Adding landing pages for new locations or industries
  • Producing first drafts of pages for editors to review before publishing
  • Filling a new site section with structured content and images in one pass

Features

What umContentGenerator does

Template page cloning

Pick any existing page. Its Block Grid or Block List structure, including nested blocks, is copied to a new page of the same document type.

Every text slot filled

The AI writes new, on-topic content for each text block based on the title and the context notes you give.

Generated images

Image slots get new images from an OpenAI image model (gpt-image-1 by default). They are uploaded to an AI Generated Images folder in the Media library.

Per-run model choice

Override the text model, reasoning effort and image model for a single generation without changing the saved defaults.

Save or publish

Choose whether the new page is saved as a draft or saved and published.

Background jobs and history

Generation runs as a background job, so long pages do not hit proxy timeouts. A history table lists date, title, status, text and image counts and run time.

Language aware

It uses the template's English variant when present, otherwise the site default language, so single and multi-language sites both work.

How it works

From install to first use

dotnet add package umContentGenerator
  1. Install

Run dotnet add package umContentGenerator. Backoffice files ship as static web assets, so nothing is copied by hand.

  2. Grant the section

Add the Content Generator section to your user group under Settings, Users, User groups, then reload the backoffice.

  3. Configure the provider

In Content Generator, Settings, enter your OpenAI API key and models. Claude can be set up as the text provider; images always use OpenAI.

  4. Generate a page

On Page Generator, pick the template page, an optional parent, a title and context notes, choose save or publish, and click Generate.

Contact us
Is umContentGenerator free?+

Yes. The package is MIT licensed. You pay your AI provider for the API calls the generator makes.

Which Umbraco versions does it support?+

Version 1.1.0 supports Umbraco 17.3 up to 18.x on .NET 10.

I installed it but cannot see the section. Why?+

Umbraco hides new sections until they are allowed for a user group. Add Content Generator to your group's sections and reload the backoffice.

Which AI providers can I use?+

OpenAI is the default and is required for images. The settings screen also offers Claude as a text provider.

Does it change my template page?+

No. It copies the structure into a new page and leaves the template as it is.

Where do generated images go?+

Into a folder named AI Generated Images in the Media library.
