Why it exists

The problem it solves

Multilingual Umbraco sites need every page copied into each language and kept in sync when the source changes. Doing it by hand, or through tools that do not understand Block Grid JSON and rich text, is slow and often breaks the layout. umContentTranslator sends only the translatable values to an AI provider and writes the results back into the right culture.

Typical uses

  • Launching a new language version of an existing Umbraco site
  • Keeping translations current after the source page changes
  • Translating dictionary items for a multilingual front end
  • Translating meta titles and descriptions for international SEO

Features

What umContentTranslator does

Claude or OpenAI

Choose the AI provider, model, reasoning effort and token limits in the backoffice, and override them for a single job.

Structure stays intact

Nested Block List, Block Grid and single-block editors are walked field by field, so layout and settings are not touched.

Editor-aware handlers

Rich text, Markdown, multiple textstrings, multi-URL picker and plain strings each have their own handler, so links and markup survive.

Dictionary items

Umbraco dictionary items can be translated alongside page content.

SEO meta fields

When SeoToolkit MetaFields is installed, meta title and meta description are translated in the same job.

Content state dashboard

A Translation Logs view shows jobs, warnings and errors per node, and flags pages that need translation, need an editor check or are out of date.

Exclusions and instructions

Mark fields to keep unchanged and add custom translation instructions for tone or terms.

Job queue

Jobs run one at a time on the server, with Pending, Running and Finished status shown live.

How it works

From install to first use

dotnet add package umContentTranslator
  1. Install

Run dotnet add package umContentTranslator. Database tables are created on startup and a Content Translator section is added.

  2. Grant the section

Add Content Translator to your user group's sections and reload the backoffice.

  3. Configure

Enter your Claude or OpenAI API key and, when you buy one, a license key. The trial works without a license.

  4. Translate

Pick a page or branch, choose target languages and start the job. Review results in the logs dashboard before publishing.

FAQ

umContentTranslator questions

Need a custom feature or help installing? OSKI built this package and can help.

Contact us
Is umContentTranslator free?+

It is a paid package with a built-in free trial. The trial allows a limited number of translations per target language. Translations into Ukrainian are free and unlimited.

How does licensing work?+

A perpetual license covers one domain, including its development, staging and test instances. The key is activated and checked online. Extra production domains are sold as add-ons.

Which Umbraco versions are supported?+

Umbraco 17 and 18 on .NET 10.

Are AI costs included?+

No. You use your own Claude or OpenAI API key and pay the provider directly.

What data leaves my site?+

The text you choose to translate goes to the AI provider you configure. The license key, domain and instance ID go to the OSKI licensing service.

Why can't I see the section after install?+

Umbraco hides new sections until they are allowed for a user group. Add Content Translator to your group and reload.
